SetMatcher
Who it is for

It is Thursday and you want a game

The hard part is rarely the playing. It is finding someone at about your level who is free on the same evening, and agreeing when and where. SetMatcher helps with that, and keeps your rating up to date afterwards.

Free to sign up and free to play. Your profile stays private until you choose to publish it.

Find a game at your level

From no plans to a match

Four steps, and you decide how much you share at each of them: being findable, asking someone to play, playing for a place on a ladder, and your rating afterwards.

  1. 1

Be findable if you want to

Nobody can find you until you switch it on. When you do, other players find you by level, by sport and by roughly where you live: your town, region or country, never your address.

  2. 2

    Challenge someone

Send a challenge to one player. They can accept, decline or suggest another time and court. No answer within two weeks counts as a no, and after two refusals you cannot ask that person again unless they challenge you.

  3. 3

    Climb a ladder

A ladder gives every match something to play for: challenge someone above you and take their place if you win. Your club sets the rules and they are shown on the ladder, so everyone knows what turning down a challenge costs.

  4. 4

    Afterwards, your rating

Both sides confirm the score before it counts. Your rating then moves by how surprising the result was, so beating a stronger player is worth more, and you can always see which match moved it.

The parts you will use most

What it cannot do: find you a partner in a town where nobody has joined yet. Your rating is also marked provisional until you have played enough matches for it to settle.

Each of these pages explains one part of SetMatcher in more detail, with examples from your sport.

The other two

Most people are more than one of these. A club secretary often plays on Thursday evening too.

Your first match is one tap away.

Join a group, play, enter the score. The ladder, the draw and the season keep themselves up to date.
