SetMatcher
What SetMatcher does

Challenge the players above you and climb the ladder.

Challenge a player above you, win, and take their place. Every change on the ladder is saved with who moved, from where to where, why and when, including the players who moved because someone else did.

How it works

Your club decides how many places up a player can challenge, how many days someone has to answer, how many challenges one player can have running, and what a win does: either the two players swap places, or the winner takes the place and everyone in between moves down one. New players start at the bottom or are placed by rating.

Ladder settings never override the rules that protect players. You cannot challenge someone who has blocked you, who recently turned you down or who is not taking challenges. A ladder that has ever been used is closed rather than deleted, because its history belongs to the players on it.

Good to know

Your club decides what turning down a challenge costs.

Declining a challenge and not answering one are handled separately. For each, the club chooses whether it costs nothing, drops the player one place, or loses them their place as if they had lost the match. Unanswered challenges are settled automatically once the time is up. A challenge that was answered with another time and then withdrawn by the challenger does not count as a refusal.

It does not matter whether a score was entered on a phone, through live scoring or at the tournament desk: the ladder updates the same way. If a result is corrected, the ladder goes back exactly to how it was before that match. A ladder match is also an ordinary match, so it counts towards your rating as usual.
